Our Story

Some businesses start with a business plan. This one started with a single piece of equipment and a bet on hard work.

In 1987, Ryan Kolodejchuk and his wife built Landwork from the ground up in the Snoqualmie Valley. They had no outside money and no shortcuts, just two people who knew how to work and believed that showing up and doing it right was enough. Nearly four decades later, it turned out they were right. What started with one machine became a business built on relationships, reputation, and the kind of craftsmanship that keeps customers calling back year after year.

Ryan didn't just build a contracting company. He built something worth handing down.

Colin Pauley grew up watching his father do the same thing. His dad owned businesses, and Colin watched closely. He absorbed what it meant to carry responsibility, to take pride in something you created, to show up every day because it was yours. That lesson never left him.

A landscaping job and mowing lawns for neighbors helped Colin put cash in his pocket and buy his first car in high school. He went on to Gonzaga University, earned his undergraduate degree in accounting, then his master's in finance, and eventually his CPA license. He built a ~2-decade career on the analytical side, behind a desk and inside conference rooms. He was good at it. But the dream his father modeled for him never went quiet, and he wanted to build something of his own.

The two paths crossed closer to home than either of them expected. Ryan and his wife were fellow Snoqualmie Valley neighbors. Colin and his wife hired Landwork to do their yard years ago, and saw firsthand what Ryan had built. The quality of the work. The way a crew that takes pride in what they do looks different from one that doesn't.

Colin left his corporate life and allowed Ryan to transition out of business ownership and into more family-focused activities. Ryan is still active on a daily basis, and Colin is doing what he loves. He's doing it because he loves the work itself. He loves being outside. He loves trucks and equipment and the satisfaction of transforming a piece of ground into something beautiful and functional. He loves what this business has become, and what it means to build something his own family can be proud of.

Colin and is wife, Whitney, live in North Bend with their two daughters. The same valley, the same neighborhoods, the same community Landwork has been working in for nearly four decades. When Colin talks about building something his family can be proud of, he means a business growing up alongside his kids, in a place he's invested in for the long run.

Whitney is Colin's strategic partner in the business. She brings a finance background herself and years of running her own business, and together they're shaping how Landwork operates and where it goes. The day-to-day operation is Colin's. The vision is both of theirs.

Ryan built Landwork on a foundation of integrity and craftsmanship. That foundation doesn't change with new ownership. It's the reason this handoff happened at all.

For 39 years, Landwork has been the crew King County homeowners call when they want the work done right. That's not changing. We're making sure it continues for another generation of families who want the outside of their home to match what they've built inside.

Same roots. Same standards. We're building something worth handing down.

What services do you offer?

Landwork handles full-scope landscape construction — excavation, grading, drainage, retaining walls, pavers, and landscape lighting. Projects range from single-phase site work to complete property transformations. One crew, every phase, from the ground up.

How does your pricing work?

Every project is unique, so pricing depends on factors like site conditions, materials, and scope of work. After an on-site visit, we provide a detailed estimate outlining costs and options so you can make informed decisions. There are no hidden fees or surprises — just transparent pricing that reflects quality craftsmanship and long-term results.

What is your process from start to finish?

We start with an on-site consultation to understand your goals and evaluate the space. From there, we create a customized plan and detailed estimate. Once approved, we schedule your project, help with any necessary permits, and get to work. Throughout the process, our team keeps you updated and the site clean and organized. When the job’s complete, we walk the property with you to make sure everything meets expectations before we wrap up.

How long will my project take, and when can you start?

Project timelines depend on the size and complexity of the work. Smaller jobs like drainage or lighting typically take a few days, while larger hardscape or full-yard construction projects can run several weeks. Once your estimate is approved, we’ll confirm your spot on the schedule and provide a clear start date. Our goal is always to complete projects efficiently without compromising quality.

Can projects be done in fall or winter?

Yes, absolutely. In fact, cooler months are often ideal for excavation, drainage, and hardscape work. Our equipment and materials are built for Northwest weather, and our crews work year-round. The only delays we typically face are during extreme rain or freeze events, which we plan around to keep your project moving. Fall and winter are also a great time to get on our schedule before the spring rush — request your free estimate now.

What areas do you serve?

We serve homeowners and contractors throughout East King County — including Bellevue, Carnation, Covington, Duvall, Fall City, Issaquah, Kent, Maple Valley, Newcastle, North Bend, Redmond, Renton, Sammamish, and Snoqualmie. We're based in East King County and built our reputation doing the kind of large-scale, heavy work that most landscapers won't touch. If you're nearby or not sure whether we cover your area, give us a call — chances are, we do.

How do I get started?
